Prerequisites
Email vendor.relations@opendental.com with the following info:
- Your company name and contact phone
- An email and address for long-term billing
- The name and email of your developer (if you have one)
- What kind of data your integration will use (e.g. appointments, patients)
- A short explanation of what the app or tool is for
Open Dental will then give your developer access to the Developer Portal.

Enable API Access in Open Dental
In Open Dental:
- Go to Setup > Advanced Setup > API
- Check “Enabled” to allow two-way communication
Add the Developer’s API Key
- Click “Add Key”
- Paste the key your developer gave you
- Accept the license agreement (this is recorded for auditing)
